Showerthought: blew $85 on a cheap CPA consult and it paid for itself in one quarterly filing
I run my freelance design work out of a spare room in Nob Hill and had been filing my own taxes for 3 years, always scared I was missing something. Back in January I finally paid a local CPA $85 for a one hour sit down, mostly just to check my quarterly estimates. Turns out I was paying self employment tax on money I'd already set aside for a SEP contribution, and she caught it in about 20 minutes. Got a refund that covered the fee 6 times over. Any other freelancers here using a CPA for quarterlies, or do you just wing it with software?
