Showerthought: I thought hourly billing was pointless for local gigs until I saw that 68% number
I always quoted flat rates for local jobs because I figured hourly billing would scare off small businesses around here. Then last week I read in a freelancer survey from Upwork that 68% of clients actually prefer hourly for short projects because they feel like they can stop the meter if things go sideways. That number caught me off guard, so I tried it on a 3 hour website fix for a shop off Central Ave and the owner actually said he liked seeing the breakdown. Now I'm rethinking my whole rate sheet and wondering if I've been leaving money on the table. Has anyone else switched to hourly for local work and regretted it?
