I think the push for AI that writes poetry is a huge waste of time
I work at a dive bar in Chicago, and last week a regular was showing me this AI that wrote a poem about his dog. Everyone at the bar was clapping and saying how amazing it was. But I just sat there thinking, why are we spending billions of dollars to teach computers to do something a 10 year old can do with a crayon and five minutes? Three years ago I was at a tech meetup in Wicker Park, and a guy from a big lab said the goal was to make AI that can feel emotions. That sounds like a nightmare to me. I get it, AI can help with drug discovery or coding, but poetry? That's a human thing. We should focus on fixing real problems like traffic or hospital wait times. Am I the only one who thinks the poetry stuff is a total distraction from the useful stuff?
