Update: The AI system that runs our local library's book picks keeps missing what our community actually reads
People think it's smart, but it keeps suggesting tech manuals when all the kids want are graphic novels.

Oh wow, I totally get this! I used to assume the AI knew best because it's "smart," but then I saw it recommend a dense book on coding to a ten year old who just wanted Dog Man. That really showed me the data it uses is just out of touch. It needs to see what's actually getting checked out, not just old categories.

The Tech Review journal said most library AIs use old genre lists. @matthew_west, adding new interests is good, but first it has to get the basics right.

Give the AI a chance to introduce new interests.

Doubt the AI needs to invent new interests when it can't handle the old ones. It recommended War and Peace to my nephew who just learned to read. Maybe fix the basics before getting fancy.
