Serious question, has anyone else hit 500 tire changes and lost count?
Last Thursday I was doing a tire change on a King Air at our shop in Bakersfield and my lead asked how many I'd done in my career, so I checked my old logbooks. Turned out I passed 500 sometime back in March and had zero clue it even happened. The weird part is I still fumble the valve stem on the first try like it's day one, so the number felt fake. Does anyone track stuff like this, or do you just find out by accident like I did?
Kept a logbook since day one because I never wanted to be the guy guessing when someone asked. The number is just a scoreboard though, it doesn't mean you stop messing up. I've got thousands of changes under my belt and I still pinch a tube or drop a valve core now and then. What 500 really tells you is your hands know the job even when your brain feels like it's day one. The fumbling is normal, it just means you're paying attention instead of going on autopilot.
