I finally kicked out a customer mid-install and it felt amazing
Honestly, last Tuesday I was out in Phoenix doing a full panel swap for this homeowner who kept hovering over my shoulder. He started second-guessing every wire I touched, saying, "My nephew watches YouTube, he says you should run it this way." I tried to explain the zone mapping and the 12V siren draw, but he just kept arguing about stuff he clearly didn't understand. After about 40 minutes of this, I packed up my drill and left the old panel half-mounted, told him to call his nephew. He was stunned, but I don't work for free and I don't need that stress on a $1,200 job. Has anyone else walked off a site like that, or do you just grin and bear it to keep the peace?
Lady, I felt this in my soul. Last spring I had a similar gig in Tucson, dude kept correcting me with stuff from some alarm forum, even tried to tell me my torpedo level was crooked when it was literally sitting dead on. I lasted about 20 minutes before I told him I was done, rolled up my wires, and left his keypad hanging by the pigtail. He called my office screaming, but my boss backed me up cause we had his signed contract saying no changes without an inspection. That hovering crap is one thing, but when they start questioning basic code, that's when I bounce. You saved yourself 40 more minutes of that headache and honestly, the next guy probably charged him double.
