I used to skip the resistor on zone loops until an engineer showed me the math
I always figured a 2.2k end of line resistor was just something the panel maker wanted so they could sell you a bag of them. Last month I was on a takeover job in a 1970s split level and the homeowner kept getting false alarms on the back door zone every time the AC kicked on. I called tech support and the guy walked me through the voltage drop, turned out the run was 340 feet of old 22 gauge and without a proper EOL the panel was reading induced noise as a trip. He said anything over about 200 feet on a noisy circuit is basically an antenna. I ran new 18 gauge, added the resistor at the far end like the manual says, and it has been dead quiet for six weeks now. So yeah, I was wrong about those little ceramic things. What gauge do you all cut over to on long overhead runs, or do you just move the panel closer?
