I finally tried watching anime with a friend who talks through every scene

Last Sunday my buddy Mark came over and he never stops commenting during shows. We put on an old mecha series I'd seen before, but his running commentary made it feel COMPLETELY new. He kept pointing out background details and animation shortcuts I never noticed in 3 rewatches. After 6 episodes I realized I was enjoying the show MORE with his interruptions than alone. Now I'm wondering if I've been watching anime wrong this whole time. Has anyone else had their viewing experience totally changed by someone who won't shut up?
