I was reading this breakdown on a blog called "Anime Structure Deep Dive" last week and they laid out how like 80% of shonen anime follow the tournament arc formula even when they aren't actually tournaments. The writer mapped out 15 shows including My Hero Academia, Naruto, and Black Clover and showed how they all hit the same 5 story beats within the first 20 episodes. I got really curious and checked my own favorites and yeah, Dragon Ball and One Piece both have that pattern too where the hero gathers friends, faces a rival, then has a big showdown with a main villain. It kinda made me feel weird about watching new shows now because I keep spotting the formula before it happens. Has anyone else had that moment where knowing the structure made shows feel less exciting?

I still remember a guy on a forum years ago telling me 'dubs are always trash, never watch them.' So I forced myself through the first 12 episodes of Attack on Titan subbed and honestly? I was bored out of my mind. Couldn't follow the action because I was reading too slow. Then I tried the dub on a whim last month and actually loved it. Now I'm wondering if that guy's advice was just his own bias. On the flip side, someone told me to stick with subs for One Piece because the English cast is rough, and after trying 10 episodes, I gotta agree with them there. So how do you decide who to listen to about this stuff? Has anyone else had a specific person's take on sub vs dub totally lead them wrong?

When I first got into anime, I kept hearing people complain about filler arcs but I thought it just meant episodes that weren't very good. I was paying $8 a month for the basic Crunchyroll plan for like 2 years straight never thought about it. Then I saw they had a yearly option for $99 and did the math that saves me like $3 a month not huge but still. I pulled the trigger back in January and honestly it's nice not having that monthly charge pop up. Has anyone else switched to yearly and found it worth it or do you prefer month to month?
