inTalked to an old paralegal about my contract language
Oh man, that "may" being a ghost word hit me right in the gut. I literally used to have the same thing in my contracts and thought I was being all professional. Funny how you learn the hard way, right? My own wake up call was way more embarrassing though. I had a client who I did all this extra work for and when I sent the bill they just laughed and said "the contract says may, not will." Felt like such a fool. Switched to a flat "any extra work costs double" clause the next week. Still makes me cringe thinking about it.

inVent: lost a job because the harbor freight torque wrench was off by 15 ft-lbs
My torque wrench once turned a simple job into a scrap metal sculpture.

inThat article about pump efficiency being the only thing that matters is missing the point
Sounds like you handled it fine without needing a spreadsheet.

inThe difference between a 6010 root pass and a 7018 fill rod is night and day since I switched 3 years ago.
Yeah, I don't know about that. I've been running 6010 slow and steady for years and my slag peels right off. I never got the hype about running it hot.

inI finally saw the difference after 2 nights in my new hammock setup near Asheville
Three years ago I bought a camping hammock with a bug net built in and didn't realize the zipper was on the wrong side for my setup. First night out I got in fine but when I had to get up at 3am to pee I spent 15 minutes fighting the netting like a fish in a net. The real trick nobody talks about is practicing the exit at home in daylight before you ever take it camping. Lay down in your living room, get comfortable, then try to get out without touching the ground with your feet first. It sounds dumb but it saves you from looking like a complete mess in front of other campers. Also learning to roll out sideways instead of trying to sit up straight makes a huge difference.
