Chose a $9 aftermarket thermostat over OEM for a dryer, and it failed in 2 weeks
I had a Whirlpool dryer on the bench in my shop in Akron last month and the OEM thermostat was backordered 10 days. I went with the cheap aftermarket one to get the family's laundry going, and it died after 14 loads. Now I'm out the part cost and a second trip, so has anyone found a reliable aftermarket brand or do you always wait for OEM?
There was a thread on an appliance repair subreddit a while back about this exact thing. Guy tested a bunch of aftermarket thermostats with a meter and found the cheap ones were way off on temp rating, like 15 to 20 degrees in some cases. Sort of explains why yours only made it 14 loads. The one brand folks kept saying held up was Supco, but even then it seemed like a coin flip.
