Found a 1987 service manual that saved a $400 board swap
Was digging through a hoarder washer dryer combo in Glendale and found a faded original service manual tucked behind the control panel. It had a troubleshooting chart that said a specific humming noise on that model was often a bad capacitor, not the whole main board. Replaced the cap for $6 and the unit fired right up. Have any of you ever found old paperwork or manuals inside machines that actually helped you out?

troubleshooting chart that said a specific humming noise" yeah that stuff is gold. Same deal with old cars and appliances, the people who built em wrote down what actually breaks and we just toss it and buy new. Knowing the exact sound saves you a whole board every time.
