Blew out my climbing line's core on a London plane, and the worst part was how normal it looked
We were deadwooding a big London plane in Capitol Hill when my groundie asked if my rope felt weird right above the friction saver. I ran my hand down it and the sheath was totally fine, but underneath it was flat and mushy, like the core was just gone. Turns out the line had around 14 months on it and I never once checked the inside, I just eyeballed the cover like an idiot. I pulled a second line up and finished the tree, then cut the bad rope into little pieces in the driveway so I wouldn't be tempted to use it again. How often are you all actually feeling your ropes for core damage, or is it just me who let this slide?
