Heard a guy in Nashville say he never climbs without a second tie-in, and half our crew disagreed
Honestly last week I was at a job site in Nashville and overheard a climber say he clips a second lanyard on anything above 30 feet, no matter how quick the trim is. Half our crew said it just slows you down and the other half said they've seen too many close calls to skip it. I get both sides but I keep going back and forth on whether it's making guys safer or just making them complacent. What do you all actually do out there, one tie-in or two?
Wait, 30 feet? That is really low to be doubling up on every single climb. I have worked with guys who would laugh you off the site for clipping a second lanyard on a quick trim at that height. But the complacency point is what gets me, because I have seen guys get so used to their gear catching them that they stop checking pouches or knots. Two tie-ins will not save you if you stop paying attention to the basics. Still, I am not gonna tell a man he is wrong for wanting a backup when the ground is that hard.
