Hit 500 residential service calls in a year and it changed how I bid jobs

Hold up, I gotta push back on this one. Bumping your minimum from $85 to $120 just because you hit more calls doesn't really prove anything except that you got lucky. You might have just been underpriced before, but that doesn't mean every other guy needs to follow your lead. What about customers who live in cheaper areas or have smaller jobs that aren't worth a hundred twenty bucks just to show up? You could be pricing yourself right out of the market for the people who actually need a quick fix like a tripped breaker or a loose outlet, not a full service call. If your area is full of folks on tight budgets, that raise might cost you more work than you think. Did you check your cancellation rate or just assume nobody left because of the new price?

Had a talk with an old mason about curing concrete and it changed my mind

My neighbor's a structural engineer and he told me something that blew my mind about this. He says the real issue isn't just keeping the concrete moist, it's keeping the temperature stable too. When you spray it once a day and let it dry out, the surface heats up in the sun while the middle stays cool from the moisture underneath. That temperature difference creates stress that pulls the concrete apart from the inside out. He showed me this study from some university where they measured surface temps hitting 120 degrees while the middle was still 70 degrees, that's a 50 degree swing. So even if you're wetting it, if you're not covering it with burlap or blankets to block the sun, you're still cooking the top layer.

That $10 rice cooker I bought last month is a total game changer for cheap meals

Wait, you can cook quinoa in a rice cooker @the_lucas? No way that works.

Just overheard a guy at the hardware store say air fryers are just tiny convection ovens

he could do the same thing in his regular oven" - ok but has that dude actually compared side by side? I call bs. Air fryers circulate heat way faster and more direct than a standard convection oven, which is why my frozen wings come out with that almost fried skin in 20 mins vs the soggy mess I get from the oven after 45. Have you tried doing a batch in your big oven on the same rack position and temp just to see if the texture difference is real or if we're all just justifying the counter space?

Hired a neighbor kid to mow my lawn for $20 and regretted it instantly

Ask if the kid offered to fix the flower bed.
