Logged my 500th tree removal this week and it felt weird

I hit exactly 500 tree removals on Tuesday, which I only know because I keep a notebook since day one. Started counting back in 2017 when I was just doing small dead oaks in people's backyards around Portland, and now it's a mix of storm damage and big pines. Has anyone else kept a tally like this and had it hit different than you expected?

Oh man, 500 trees and it felt weird? That's because you've probably got a little bit of tree guilt built up in there somewhere. I bet you've started naming them in your notebook by now like, "sorry Becky the oak, you had to go." I think the real milestone is when you start dreaming about chainsaw sounds, then you know you're in too deep. But hey, at least you're not counting how many stumps you tripped over this year, right? Keep that tally going, maybe frame the notebook when you hit 1000.

500 trees is no joke, that's like a whole forest worth of work. I've been keeping a tally too for my storm cleanups since 2019 but I only have like 180 so far, mostly cottonwoods and ash trees after big wind events here in Nebraska. The notebook thing is smart, I wish I'd started one from the beginning because it's crazy to look back and see how much the job has changed over the years.
