Appreciation post: the Tuesday dig at a site near Tucson that found 14 potsherds and one whole bowl
Honestly I almost skipped that Tuesday because it was 104 degrees by 9am and my knees were already shot from screening all week. We moved to a new trench behind the old wash and within two hours hit a trash pit that gave us 14 painted potsherds and then a whole seed jar sitting upright like somebody just set it down. Our lab guy said the rim style points to around 1100 AD, which lines up with the plaza we mapped in March. Worst part is we only had that trench open for 3 days before the permit ran out, so we backfilled it with the bowl still in the ground. Has anyone else had to walk away from a feature mid dig because of a permit clock?
