Just saw the 3,500 year old wooden spades from a UK dig and I can't stop thinking about them
Last week I read about the Must Farm quarry site in Cambridgeshire, a Bronze Age village that burned down about 3,500 years ago and got buried in river silt. Archaeologists pulled out wooden spades, bowls, and even a wheel made of planks, all preserved because the mud cut off oxygen. The settlement only stood for about a year before the fire, which is wild to me since the dig took months just to uncover it. What gets me is how these tools look almost like the ones we use today. Anyone know of other wet sites that keep wood from rotting like this?
