Found out 1 in 4 people in the US have no one to call in an emergency, and I can't stop thinking about it
I was reading a news article from the Survey Center on American Life about loneliness and a stat jumped out at me: 1 in 4 adults say they have zero people they could call if they had a crisis at 2am. That number is way higher than I would have guessed. I always figured most people had at least a parent or a sibling or one old friend in their back pocket for stuff like that. It made me think about who I would actually call and honestly my list is pretty short too. Has anyone else seen numbers like this, and does it match what you see with the people around you?
Did you see that Surgeon General report from a couple years back about loneliness being as bad for you as smoking? I heard a podcast about it and they said the same thing, that a lot of people have nobody in their corner.
