I used to think you had to answer every single question on these forums.

I'd spend like 45 minutes on a Tuesday night writing a novel for some random person asking about car insurance in Florida. Then I saw a mod just link to the FAQ and move on. When did you figure out it's okay to not personally solve every problem?

Totally get what you mean about old answers being confusing, that's a real problem. But telling someone to search isn't always shutting the door. A good reply can point to the specific FAQ section and then add a quick line to clear up the confusing part. It saves you from writing a book and still helps them move forward. The goal is sharing knowledge, not just being a personal answer machine for stuff that's already been explained.

Honestly, the real turning point was seeing how many repeat questions get asked. You can't personally solve every problem because half of them are already solved in old threads. It feels freeing to just point someone to the search bar sometimes, or that FAQ link. Saves your energy for the weird, specific stuff that actually needs a fresh answer.

See your point @kevinallen, but telling people to search just feels like shutting the door. Half the time they're stuck because the old answers are confusing or outdated.
