PSA: dropped $80 on a "certified" DNA kit for my dog and got back pure guesswork
The report said my mutt from the San Antonio shelter was 40% poodle, but my vet laughed and said there's no way by looking at him. Save your money and just ask your vet what they think he is. Did anyone actually get useful results from one of these?
Paying $80 to find out your dog is 40% poodle when the vet takes one look and laughs is rough. My guess is those kits just spin a wheel and whatever breed it lands on becomes part of your dog's "history". The shelter special is probably a mix of like nine things anyway, so good luck getting a straight answer from a swab. Asking the vet seems way more honest, and it is free. Your mileage may vary, but that poodle result sounds like a total coin flip.
