Finally picked between the 8 inch SCT and the 6 inch refractor for my first galaxy shot
I stood in my driveway in Fort Wayne last Saturday for 20 minutes going back and forth between my C8 and my 6 inch refractor. I went with the refractor because the wider field would fit all of M31 instead of just the core. First stack came out with the dust lanes actually showing at 90 seconds per frame, which I did not expect from my light polluted backyard. I only got 40 usable frames out of 70 because of clouds rolling in around 1am. Has anyone shot Andromeda with a small refractor and figured out a good way to keep the edges from looking soft?
