My old phone pics of the moon look fake next to my new ones, and it took me 3 months to figure out why
I pulled up my gallery from 2019 and compared the same moon shot from last month. The old one is a bright white blob with zero craters, and the new one actually shows the terminator line and a few maria. I was blaming my telescope for years when the real problem was shooting through a phone on full auto with the ISO cranked. I switched to manual mode, dropped the ISO to 400, and stacked 40 frames in free software on my laptop. The difference is not subtle, it looks like two different cameras. Now I want to know how many of you are stacking moon shots and if a cheap tracking mount actually helped or if it just made you lazy.
