My star tracker vs just stacking shots, which way do you shoot the Milky Way?
I drove out to Big Bend in March with my star tracker and got 40 clean subs of the Rho Ophiuchi area, but a buddy shot the same patch handheld style with 150 short frames and his final stack honestly looks better than mine. Now I am torn on whether the tracker is worth hauling around when stacking software keeps getting smarter. Do you all still use trackers for wide field shots, or have you ditched them for short exposure stacking? Would love to hear what actually works for people out in the field.
