Took me 8 weeks to get a $200 charge removed from my credit report

I had this old medical bill from 2021 that I thought was paid off. Turned out the billing office sent it to collections by mistake. I spent 2 months writing letters and making phone calls to get it deleted. The collection agency kept saying they couldn't verify the debt, but it still showed up on my Equifax report. Finally sent a certified dispute letter to the credit bureau with proof of payment from my bank. Took exactly 56 days from start to finish before it dropped off. Has anyone else had to go through this kind of back and forth with medical billing departments?

Finally got my first commission piece done after 3 years of drawing

I started digital art back in 2021 just for fun, mostly doing fan art in my bedroom in Portland. Last month a friend asked me to draw their cat for a birthday gift and I actually got paid $50 for it. I finished it this morning after tweaking the fur texture for like 2 hours. Has anyone else had a random request turn into a paid gig out of nowhere?

PSA: Using a wet sponge on your knife before cutting tape is a game changer

I got so tired of my tape sticking to the blade after like 3 cuts. Tried a different knife and it still gummed up. Finally just dipped a sponge in water and ran it along the blade before each cut. The tape glides off clean and I didn't have to scrape junk off every 5 minutes. Has anyone else tried this or got a better trick for keeping blades clean?

Overheard a fellow freelancer saying they only use long-tail keywords now

She said she landed 3 solid clients last month just by targeting 4-5 word phrases instead of competing on broad terms, and I'm wondering if I should dump my whole keyword strategy and start fresh with that approach, anyone else tried going all-in on long-tail?

Debate: Is expensive thread worth it or a total waste? I lost $60 on premium linen thread that kept snapping.

I spent $60 on high-end linen thread from a specialty shop, thinking it would make my bindings last forever. But it snapped on me 4 times during a single project, and I ended up using cheap polyester I had lying around. Has anyone else had good luck with fancy thread, or are we all just wasting cash?

Refinishing my bathtub with a DIY kit was a total disaster

Used one of those $80 epoxy kits from the hardware store last weekend. Followed the instructions exactly, sanded, cleaned, waited for cure time. Day three and it's already peeling near the drain. Guess I should have just paid the $400 for a professional to spray it. Anyone else had one of these kits fail on them?

My garage workbench sagged for 2 years until I tried this plywood trick

I built my workbench out of 2x4s and 3/4 plywood, but after about a year the top started bowing in the middle under my tool chest. A buddy told me to flip the plywood over and screw a 1x2 cross-brace underneath every 16 inches, which cost me maybe $8 total. Has anyone else found a cheap fix that changed how their bench held up over time?

Finally tried a razor comb for texturizing instead of my usual thinning shears.

Did a bob on a client in Portland yesterday and the razor gave me way softer movement than the shears ever did, has anyone else had that work out better or did I just get lucky?

That thing a builder said about my seam tape that totally changed how I work

I was doing a job out in Phoenix last month and the builder watched me lay down some seam tape on a berber carpet. He told me I was pressing too hard and flattening the backing, which makes the seam show later. Has anyone else had a builder call them out on something that seemed small but actually made a big difference?

That time I tried to date a site by pottery alone...

Spent three weeks classifying every sherd from a test pit in southern Utah. Thought I had a solid early Pueblo II date based on the corrugation patterns. Sent them to a specialist and she said half were from the 1970s. Learned the hard way that you can't just eyeball sherds without understanding local clay sources first.
