TIL I'd been stacking moon shots on the wrong frames for 8 months and a guy at the Austin club meet caught it
I've been shooting the moon with a 130mm reflector since January and stacking everything in AutoStakkert without checking the alignment points. Last Tuesday at the Austin club meet, a guy named Ron pulled up my Saturn files and asked why half my frames were smeared, then showed me his own cropped stack on the same laptop. Turns out I was letting the software pick thousands of tiny points on a low contrast surface and it was just chasing noise. Has anyone else had luck with a simpler alignment setup for planetary work, or do I just need to shoot way more frames per run?
