Realized I've been using the wrong lane at the 285 merge for 3 years when a trucker honked at me
I always thought you had to floor it and merge as fast as possible. Then a trucker laid on his horn and waved me to slow down. Turns out the merge lane is meant for matching speed, not rushing in. Anyone else learn something basic about Atlanta traffic the hard way?

Riding your brakes all the way down the ramp" - oh man, I feel called out. Guilty of that for way too long until someone flashed their brights at me. Still not sure if I'm doing it right honestly, some days I just pick a lane and pray.

Well isn't that something. I bet that trucker saved you from a lot of potential trouble. The thing nobody talks about is how those merge lanes really are not long enough in Atlanta. The city designed them for cars going 45 but everybody is doing 70. So you end up having to make a choice between flooring it or waiting for a gap. I learned the hard way that riding your brakes all the way down the ramp just makes everybody behind you angry. Matching speed is the goal but with our traffic you sometimes have to pick a lane and commit no matter what.
