Spent $80 on a cheap dehumidifier for my basement and it burned out in 3 months flat

Now I'm stuck with a musty smell and have to drop $250 on a proper one from Home Depot in Midtown, anyone else learn the hard way that spending less upfront just costs you more later?

It's wild how that cheap logic bleeds into everything, not just dehumidifiers. Same reason I stopped buying the bargain bin extension cords that melt after one winter, you end up paying twice to get the thing that actually works.

Heck yeah, 47 days is rough even for a cheap model.

Four years ago I bought a $60 dehumidifier from a discount store and it ran for exactly 47 days before the compressor seized up with a loud clunk. Learned my lesson the hard way just like you did. Now I stick with the Frigidaire ones from Home Depot and they last at least a couple years before needing any work. Funny how we both had to burn cash on cheap junk before we figured out that paying more up front saves us headaches later. Hope the new one works out better for you.
