Showerthought: do you join a formal networking group or just work the room at every random meetup?
Last month I had to pick between paying $450 to join a structured networking group in Buckhead or just hitting up a free meetup in Midtown every other Tuesday. I went with the paid group, and after 6 weeks I got exactly one solid lead that went nowhere. My buddy did the free route and now he's doing work for two guys he met at a coffee shop on Peachtree. So now I'm wondering if the dues actually buy anything besides a badge and a breakfast burrito. The free thing seems more random but it also feels more real. Did I waste $450 or am I just being impatient after only a month and a half? What has actually worked for you guys around here?
