Update: went to 7 mixers in 30 days and got 4 real follow-ups. That number surprised me.
So I finally did the thing I kept putting off and hit up 7 networking events around Atlanta in 30 days. Midtown, Buckhead, one thing at a brewery near the Westside, the usual. I figured I would come out with a big stack of cards and maybe 15 new contacts. Instead, I got 4 people who actually replied when I followed up, and honestly the other 40 or so names are already a blur. The 4 that stuck came from two events where I had an actual back and forth with someone, not just the handshake and pitch line. What caught me off guard is that 3 of the 4 were people I almost skipped because their table looked slow. I am now wondering if small, half empty meetups beat the big crowded ones every single time, or if I just got lucky with who showed up. Has anyone here found a better way to tell which events are worth the drive?

Nah, big crowded ones worked better for me. Easier to blend in and find your people.
