A customer in a 2005 Civic swore his engine was shot, but it was just a $12 vacuum hose
He came in yesterday saying the car was shaking and running rough, ready to junk it. I popped the hood and heard that classic hissing sound right away. Found a cracked hose behind the intake manifold, replaced it with a piece from my kit, and it idled smooth. How often do you guys find a simple vacuum leak that someone thought was a major repair?

My old neighbor was ready to replace his whole fridge because it wouldn't cool. I walked over and just pushed it back from the wall a bit. The coils were totally clogged with dust. It's wild how often the fix is just cleaning something or tightening a screw, but people jump straight to buying a new one. We see it with phones, appliances, even that weird noise in your house.

Fixed my washer that way. Just had to level the feet.

Yeah, the part about jumping straight to buying a new one... my dad was like that with everything. I remember he almost ordered a new dryer because it was shaking, and it just had one loose screw on the drum inside. Felt so good to fix it for free.

Totally used to be the person ready to toss stuff out. Then my laptop fan sounded like a jet engine and I was looking at new ones. Saw a comment from @oliviajenkins about leveling washer feet and it clicked. I just blew the dust out of the vents with some canned air. Silent now. It's crazy how many "dead" things just need the simplest fix, like a loose wire or a good clean. Makes you check the easy stuff first every time.
