Finally got my hands on a proper scan tool after using a basic code reader for ages

Honestly, the difference is night and day. I was stuck on a weird intermittent misfire on a 2016 Civic for like two days with my old reader. Borrowed a buddy's Autel scanner and the live data showed a fuel trim swinging wildly only under load, which the basic tool just couldn't see. It pointed me right to a failing injector. What's the one tool upgrade that made the biggest difference in your diagnostic speed?

Upgrading to a scope changed everything for me.

Upgrading optics really does open up a whole new world, @jamesc79. I read an article about how better glass reduces eye strain and lets you see more detail. What model did you end up going with?

Stop ignoring your ears. A good scan tool is great, but sometimes the weird noise a part makes tells you more than any live data stream (ask me about the time a bad alternator bearing sounded exactly like a failing power steering pump). Learning to really listen can save you from chasing ghosts in the data.
