Hit 300k on my daily driver and the timing belt is still original
So now I'm sitting here at 300,412 miles wondering if I'm the luckiest man alive or just overdue for a very expensive lesson, and I need someone to tell me I'm not crazy for running it till it snaps.
running it till it snaps" is a bold plan until it snaps on the highway in the rain. I watched a buddy do this on a Civic and the belt let go at 310k, bent every valve in the head, and the car was worth maybe $1500 at that point. The tow alone was $200 and the shop wanted $2800 to fix it. Do the belt and water pump now for like $600 to $900 and you get another 100k out of it. If you're dead set on gambling then at least keep it to short trips around town so you're not stranded two hours from home when it goes. The fact that it's lasted this long is pure luck, not proof it'll keep going.
