A tuner at a Charlotte meet told me my 6 psi boost spike was costing me 20 whp, and I can't shake it
He walked up to my car at a Charlotte cars and coffee last Saturday, listened to my turbo spool, and said "that flutter after you lift is your BOV spring being too stiff, you're stalling the compressor and losing spool between shifts." I'd been chasing a laggy 1-2 shift for 5 months and just blamed the tune. Anyone else get humbled by a guy who diagnoses your car by ear in under 30 seconds?
Curious what your actual BOV setup is, brand and spring rate, and whether the flutter shows up on light throttle lifts or only after a hard pull. Stiff spring is a common call but it can also be a vacuum line issue or the spring shimmed too much, so I would want to know what he actually heard before you swap parts. Also, did he say anything about the spike itself coming from the BOV, or was he only talking about the shift recovery? Those are two different problems and 20 whp from a spike sounds like a stretch unless the tune is pulling timing for it.
