Vent: the intake spacer I skipped 3 years ago on my Civic finally got explained to me
Back in 2021 I threw a cheap cold air intake on my 2000 Civic in my buddy's garage in Reno and never bothered with a spacer, and it ran fine for 40k miles until it started idling rough at stoplights. Last week a guy at the track walked me through how the MAF sits too close to the throttle body and the turbulence throws off the reading, which made me feel dumb and also kind of relieved. Has anyone here actually fixed rough idle just by adding a spacer, or is it usually a vacuum leak somewhere else?
Ha, been there. Added a spacer to my old B16 after chasing the same gremlin and it mostly cleaned up the idle, but I still had a small vac leak at the intake boot that was making it worse.
