DAE catch the "it works fine on the ground" talk from a hangar across the field and get a bad feeling?
I was walking back from the FBO at a small field outside Wichita last Tuesday and heard two guys at the next hangar saying a squawk would clear itself once the plane got up to altitude, and they laughed it off. That stuck with me all day. Pilots say stuff like that because they don't see what we see on the bench, and I get why, but a radio that reads good in a warm hangar at 70 degrees can act up at 18,000 feet when the cold hits the connectors. I had a com issue a while back that only showed up on climb out, and it turned out to be a loose pin on a tray connector that tested clean every time on the ground. Took me 3 days to find it, and the only reason I did was a wiggle test I almost skipped. So now when I hear "it works fine on the ground" I write it down and go looking anyway. Have any of you had a squawk that only shows up in the air, and how are you chasing those down?
