PSA: Check your crimp die numbers before you squeeze
We had a bird come back twice last month for the same intermittent fault in the pitot-static heat circuit. Turns out the last guy used an 18-22 gauge die on 16 gauge wire and left a cold joint that finally let go at 41,000 feet. The fault log showed a resistance spike for weeks before it fully failed. I pulled the terminal and you could twist it with two fingers. How many of you actually verify your crimp die against the wire gauge on every job, or is it just me and the QA guy who get twitchy about this stuff?
