Spotted a bad battery toss at the airport this morning
Saw a guy chuck old plane batteries into the regular trash bin. Those things can leak nasty chemicals and mess up the ground. What's your shop's plan for tossing avionics stuff safely?

Hate seeing batteries tossed in the trash like that. It can lead to leaks that mess up the ground and water. Every shop should have a safe way to get rid of avionics gear.

Saw a news piece about lithium batteries causing fires in garbage trucks. Makes the whole recycling thing even more urgent.

Absolutely. It goes beyond just having bins at shops, though that's a good start. We need clear rules that make companies take back their old batteries, no questions asked. The cost of cleaning up a fire or a polluted water supply is so much higher than setting up a simple return system. It has to be easy for everyone, or it just won't happen.

Honestly, those garbage truck fire reports changed my mind big time (I used to think battery recycling was just extra hassle). @rowanw91 hit the nail on the head about safe disposal at shops, since tossing batteries can lead to real problems. Now I see how leaks mess up the ground and water, and fires make it even worse. So recycling needs to be a priority, not an afterthought. It's kind of a wake-up call for all of us.
