Got caught by a washed out crossing on the Eagle Rock loop near Arkansas 27 and had to backtrack 4 miles
I hit the crossing after two days of rain and the water was thigh deep and moving fast, way past what I wanted to wade with a full pack. I turned around and took the high ridge route instead even though it added about 4 miles and a couple hours. Anyone got a backup plan for that stretch when the water's up?
Check the gage at the Ponca low water bridge before you commit, and if it's up just take the ridge route from the start instead of wasting miles. Saved me the same headache on that stretch last spring.
