Heard a guy at REI say "just follow the app" and it got me thinking about how we used to plan routes
Last week I was in the Denver REI and overheard a younger guy tell his buddy they'd just follow the GPS track on their phone for a 4 day loop in the Weminuche and not bother with a paper map or compass. Back in the 90s I spent a whole winter tracing routes on topo quads at the library and calling ranger stations to ask about water sources, and honestly that planning was half the fun of the trip. Do you all still bring paper maps as a backup, or have you gone fully digital for route finding now?
