My sister called me out on my banana bread recipe

She said I was using way too many mix-ins and it was ruining the texture. I took a step back and realized she was right after I bit into a chunk of frozen raspberry in my latest loaf. Anyone else had a family member give you baking feedback that stung but helped?

Three cups of mix-ins per loaf is the sweet spot, texture be damned. Your sister's a critic, not a baker.

What kind of mix-ins are we talking here, chocolate chips or something more peculiar?

Oh come on, "texture be damned"? You're basically saying the bread part doesn't matter, which is wild. If I'm eating banana bread (not a muffin, not a cookie) I want that soft, moist crumb to be the star, not a delivery vehicle for frozen raspberries that leave soggy pockets. Three cups of mix-ins per loaf means you're eating a trail mix bar that happens to have some banana flavor in the background. My sister once told me my chocolate chip cookies were "just a vehicle for chocolate chips" and I got defensive, but she was right - I was adding so many I couldn't even taste the butter and brown sugar. Sometimes the criticism stings because it's true, and your sister might be saving you from making a dense, heavy brick that's more about quantity than quality.
