A guy I cut last week convinced me to stop pushing the 20-minute appointments

I've been doing 30-minute cuts for 8 years and thought quicker was better, but this regular in his 60s told me he drives 40 minutes to my shop because I don't rush his fade... he said the last three barbers he tried made him feel like a number. That hit different because I used to brag about squeezing in extra clients, but now I'm wondering if I've been losing the people who actually tip well and come back monthly. Anybody else slow down their schedule and see their regulars get more loyal, or is that just me?

Read somewhere that people don't remember the exact cut as much as they remember how the whole visit made them feel. Sounds like that older gentleman figured that out a long time ago. Slow days might mean fewer walk-ins, but the guys who book ahead and bring their friends are worth more over a year than a bunch of one-time clients. Your regulars are the ones paying your bills, not the random who just needs a quick buzz before a wedding. Takes a while to unlearn the fast-pace mindset, but sounds like you're onto something good.
