I finally let an older barber talk me into the clipper-over-comb method

Been doing fades for 5 years but always avoided clipper-over-comb because it felt clumsy. This retired guy named Ray who rents a chair at my shop kept saying it gives a softer blend, so I tried it on a regular Tuesday with a client who has really thick hair. Took me about 15 minutes longer than my usual routine but the blend came out way smoother, no harsh lines at all. My client even asked what I changed. Anyone else switch up a technique late after fighting it for years?
