My old barber told me he never cuts a kid's hair on a Saturday, and 2 months later I get why
I was in my old shop last week getting a cut from Marcus, guy I apprenticed under back in 2019, and he mentioned he won't book kids on Saturdays no matter what. I laughed and asked if it was about the money, and he said no, it's about the parent standing two feet away saying "shorter on the sides" every 30 seconds while the kid squirms. He said he lost a regular family of 4 over it once, mom got mad he wouldn't squeeze her son in on a Saturday, and he told her Sunday at 10 is open and quiet. She came back 3 weeks later and stayed for 6 years. That stuck with me because I've been taking every walk-in I can get since I opened my own chair, and my Saturdays have turned into a zoo. Last Saturday I had a dad hovering over me the whole time telling me his son wanted a fade "but not too faded." I did 11 cuts that day and felt like I did 25. So now I'm wondering if I'm just bad at saying no, or if there's a better way to set this up. How do you all handle the weekend kid rush without losing your mind or the parents?
