Old clipper blades have a hidden hazard I just found out about

Was cleaning my station last Tuesday when I noticed a fine metal dust built up in the blade guard of my Andis Master. Looked it up online, turns out nickel from the plating can flake off into clipper oil after like 2 years of heavy use. That dust gets on skin and some guys have reactions, rashes that look like razor burn but worse. I checked 4 of my backup blades and 2 showed the same flaking. How often do you guys replace blades versus just sharpening them, have I been running mine way too long?
