inVent: I had to pick between a long, fancy email or a short, direct one for a big pitch.
Two hours for nothing? Brutal.

inShoutout to the guy at the hardware store who saved me from a huge tile mistake
That's rough for your buddy, @flores.mark. It really depends on what he was trying to do. A lot of DIY floor jobs go wrong because the surface wasn't prepped right first. If there's any old glue or wax left, the new stuff just won't stick. It peels up and takes chunks with it. Proper cleaning and sanding first is the key step everyone wants to skip.

Flat bricks is right. I remember trying to learn guitar years ago. I'd play one wrong note and feel like the whole song was ruined, but my wife would say it sounded fine. We definitely fixate on the tiny flaws no one else even notices.

Honestly, kiln dried wood is way overrated for most people. It costs a ton more and the extra heat you get is pretty small. Tbh, good seasoned wood you've dried yourself burns just fine and saves a lot of money. The whole thing feels like a fix for a problem that doesn't really exist for a normal fireplace. Ngl, it seems like a trend pushed by companies selling expensive wood.
