Can we talk about how I talked myself out of a raise for 3 years

I kept telling clients my rates were flexible because I was scared of losing work, but last month a regular guy told me 'your prices are too low, it makes me wonder about your quality.' That one comment flipped a switch in my head. Anyone else ever get knocked out of a bad habit by something a client said?

My buddy lost a contract quoting himself too low and the client walked.

Man, I gotta push back on this one. I've seen the opposite happen three times this year alone where someone quoted too high and the client just laughed and walked. @taylor_wells your buddy might have dodged a bullet. Low quotes can actually lock you in and build trust if you deliver good work. I'd rather start low and earn a raise later than price myself out of a project entirely. Most clients don't even know what fair pricing looks like, they just want to feel like they got a deal.
