That quote from a contractor buddy doubled my rate overnight
A guy I met on a kitchen remodel in Boise told me to stop listing my hourly rate and start quoting the job total. I tried it last month, one number for the whole gig, and the customer didn't even blink at $2,400 when before they'd haggle me down $30 on an hour. Has anyone else switched from hourly to flat quotes and seen the pushback disappear?

My buddy Mike does drywall work and switched to flat quotes last year. He told me a client once tried to talk him down from $1,800 to $1,750 and he just said no, that's the price. Guy paid it without another word. Now he never breaks down his hours for anyone.
