Warning: I quoted $1,200 for a 3 week job and the client said yes without blinking
Last month a lady in Portland asked me to do a full closet overhaul and I threw out $1,200 just to see what would happen after years of getting haggled down to $600 for similar work. She said yes in about two seconds and now I can't stop wondering if I should have asked for more, or if I just got lucky with one person. My husband thinks I'm overthinking it and that I should just keep quoting high and see where the floor is, but a friend who does the same work says you can't raise rates fast or you burn bridges with repeat clients. So which is it, do you test the ceiling with every new client or do you creep up slow so nobody feels cheated? Would love to hear from anyone who jumped their rate by more than 50 percent in one go.
