Client kept adding 'one quick thing' until a 3 week project hit 4 months
I took a logo refresh for a local bakery in Portland and they kept texting small changes, each one seemed like 20 minutes but ate whole days. After the 8th round of color tweaks I realized my estimate was way off because I never put a cap on revisions. Has anyone else had a project balloon like this, and what did you do to stop the bleeding without losing the client?
Wrote a "revision menu" after my third project went sideways and it saved me. First two rounds of changes are free, then it's an hourly rate after that, and I put the number right in the contract so nobody's surprised. I told the bakery owner I wanted to keep going but the scope had doubled, so either we set a cutoff for the logo or she pays for the extra rounds. She picked the cutoff and honestly she seemed relieved too, since all those little tweaks were stressing her out as well.
